I am a relatively new quilter having made my first quilt for my friends Kristie and Chris on the imminent birth of their third child, Ludivin, some 7 years ago. (2006). I was living in Australia at the time and the whole process required many phone conversations with my sister Mary, an old hand at this quilting business! I found the whole process mesmerising! I am notorious for becoming bored quite quickly once I have mastered a skill, and suddenly I was confronted with a project that not only utlilised a skill set that I had already, but also introduced me to wonderful new ones. I felt challenged – there were so many facets to this quilting business and since then, I have become completely engrossed.
Career wise, I am a teacher librarian having been Head of information services at a private p-12 college on the Gold Coast in Australia for 17 years. When my three children left the nest and my parents were in need of another child to assist them in their ‘later years’, my husband, Chris and I very gladly returned to our roots and back to New Zealand. I am relishing living in relative isolation in the foothills of the Hunua Ranges where I spend my days quilting, sewing, gardening (in a snake free environment!) and maintaining my academic skill base with mentoring and relief work.
